Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th Street) present five performances as part of George Wein's CareFusion Jazz Festival New York from June 18th to the 25th. The Jazz Gallery All-Stars performance at Symphony Space on Friday, June 18th. The Jazz Gallery's luminary co-founder Roy Hargrove is joined by other veterans of the adventurous non-profit's musical family, including Claudia Acuña, Ambrose Akinmusire, Lage Lund, Gerald Clayton, Kendrick Scott, Ben Williams, Pedro Martinez, Miguel Zenon, and others. Sidney Bechet Society Presents An Evening In New Orleans Featuring Evan Christopher and Clarinet Road on Wednesday, June 23rd. The Sidney Bechet Society, dedicated to preserving the legacy of saxophone great Sidney Bechet, presents a New Orleans inspired evening of jazz music, featuring rising star clarinetist Evan Christopher with Terri Wilson (vocals), Eli Yamin (piano), Ari Roland (bass), LaFrae Sci (drums), John Allred (trombone), Ricky "Dirty Red" Gordon (washboard), and tap dancer Calvin Booker. Bringing "From Bebop to Freebop" on Thursday, June 24th, vocalists Jay Clayton and Sheila Jordan have been challenging convention, and creating daring new expressions in vocal jazz for decades.
