Warner Bros. Delays Release of Sci-fi Thriller JUPITER ASCENDING to 2015

Variety reports that Warner Bros has delayed the released date of their sci-fi action thriller JUPITER ASCENDING from July 18th to February 6, 2015. The studio explained that the decision, which comes less than seven weeks before the original opening date, was based on the need to complete extensive special effects.

Domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman said that directors Andy and Lana Wachowskis needed more time to finish the work in the way they envisioned it. "With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time," he added. "A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time."

"Jupiter Ascending" will now open on the same weekend that Warner Bros. premiered this year's The Lego Movie" to great success, grossing $460 million worldwide at the box office.

In order to clear a spot for "Jupiter Ascending" on its new release date, Warner Bros. pulled "Run All Night," starring Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnamon, from the scheduled slot, explaining that the film would release at some point in 2015.

The action sci-fi film stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D'Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith.

Synopsis:

Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along-her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

From the streets of Chicago to far flung galaxies whirling through space, "Jupiter Ascending" is written and directed by the Wachowskis. Award-winning producer Grant Hill, with whom they have collaborated since "The Matrix" Trilogy, is producing, together with Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski. Roberto Malerba and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.
