ETonline reports that Julien's Auction house has sold the dress worn by the character 'Dorothy' in the iconic 1939 film THE WIZARD OF OZ for a a whopping $480,000. Actress Judy Garland donned the blue gingham frock, which brought in the highest price of any other piece of film memorabilia offered at the event held over the weekend.

Other items which were auctioned included the racing jacket worn by Steve McQueen that fetched $50,000, a Jaclyn Smith dress from the classic TV series Charlie Angel's that sold for $15,000, and the dress worn by Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music dress, which went for $38,400.

A purple skirt worn by Marilyn Monroe during the filming of River of No Return sold for a  $50,000, while the pair of Blues Brother sunglasses worn by John Belushi went for $16,640.

The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American fantasy adventure film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Based on the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum,the film starred Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, and Frank Morgan, with Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton, Charley Grapewin, Clara Blandick and the Singer Midgets as the Munchkins.Notable for its use of special effects, Technicolor, fantasy storytelling and unusual characters, it has become, over the years, one of the best known of all films and part of American popular culture.
