Tyrese Gibson Signs on for BLACK NATIVITY Film Adaptation

According to BlackFilm.com, FAST THE FURIOUS star Tyrese Gibson has officially signed on for Kasi Lemmon's upcoming adaptation of the musica, BLACK NATIVITY. Gibson will star alongside Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, and Jacob Latimore.

Tyrese released his fifth studio album, OPEN INVITATION, in November 2012, receiving a Grammy nomination for 'Best R&B Album.' NATIVITY will mark Tyrese's musical film debut.

In BLACK NATIVITY, a young teen from Baltimore is sent by his single mother to Harlem to spend Christmas with the grandparents he's never met. Through his grandfather's Christmas Eve sermon and a stylized, dream-sequence retelling of the classic Nativity story, he learns about the importance of faith and family.

The film, originally written as a Broadway musical by Langston Hughes in 1961, is set to begin production this month, with Fox Searchlight distributing the film.

Gibson has previously been seen in the FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise, as well as Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS films.
