Tom Hiddleston Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in Guillermo del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK
Tom Hiddleston is set to get gothic for Guillermo del Toro.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the AVENGERS actor has officially signed on to step in for Benedict Cumberbatch in del Toro's upcoming film CRIMSON PEAK.
Hiddleston will join Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska (who recently replaced Emma Stone,) and Charlie Hunnam. Cumberbatch exited the project at the end of August.
Del Toro recently described CRIMSON PEAK to Deadline as: "a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."
Del Toro went on to explain that he intends to emulate the classic horror films such as THE HAUNTING and THE INNOCENTS. CRIMSON PEAK is written by Lucinda Coxon.
Hiddleston began his career in theatre. His stage credits include Donmar Warehouse's production of Othello, directed by Michael Grandage and acted alongside Ewan McGregor. Hiddleston has also appeared in the West End revival of Ivanov, The Children's Monologues at The Old Vic and The Kingdom of Earth at Criterion Theatre.
Hiddleston's film appearances include Thor, War Horse, The Avengers, The Deep Blue Sea, Midnight in Paris and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. His TV credits include Wallander, Suburban Shootout, Return to Cranford and more.
