Variety writes that Tom Hardy will join Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro González Iñárritu's film THE REVENANT for New Regency. Hardy and DiCaprio last appeared on the big screen together in INCEPTION.

In THE REVENANT, DiCaprio stars as 'Hugh Glass', a 19th century fur trapper who is mauled by a grizzly bear, left for dead and then robbed. When he survives against all odds, he sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on his betrayers in this captivating and inspiring story based on the Michael Punke novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.

No word yet on who Hardy will play. Will Poulter is also in talks to join the cast.

The film, written by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu, is scheduled to start production this September with a fall 2015 release planned through New Regency's distribution deal with 20th Century Fox.

Anonymous Content's Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and David Kanter will produce the film along with Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan and James Skotchdopole. Executive producer is Paul Green. RatPac and Worldview Entertainment will co-finance the film.

Among Hardy's other upcoming projects are The Drop, Child 44, London Road, Mad Max: Fury Road and Legend. He recent appeared in Locke, The Dark Knight Rises, Lawless and This Means War.
