Back Lot Music will release the soundtrack for The Purge, Universal Pictures' upcoming speculative thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, today, June 4, 2013. The Purge Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new music by Nathan Whitehead. The film opens across the country on June 7, 2013.

"Scoring The Purge was a fascinating and haunting exploration into what we value as a society and how far will we go in the name of greater social good," Whitehead reflects. "Sonically, this was such a fun world to develop as I got to record and process a lot of strange sounds to create our own vocabulary for the score-everything from spring rattles and noisy toys to whooshing traffic and subway tunnels. Then working with this gritty, textural palette I aimed to tell two main stories musically: Will we survive the night and even if we do, what does this say about us as human beings? I found this combination of tense action and human drama to be so compelling and it was really rewarding to express that musically."

The Purge: If on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do? In The Purge, a thriller that follows one family over the course of a single night, four people will be tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home.

Directed by James DeMonaco (writer of Assault on Precinct 13 and The Negotiator), The Purge is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister), Platinum Dunes' partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), as well as Sébastien Kurt Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13). www.blumhouse.com/film/thepurge.
