Box office reports from this week are in, revealing America still can't get enough of Peter Jackson's fantasy world.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES, grossed $16.575mil on Friday, with $2.18mil from just Imax screenings. Imax boasts 13% of Friday's sales, and 3D screenings made up 50% of the movie's ticket revenue thusfar.

In the No. 2 spot, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB has $5.6mil as of Friday, with an estimated $18.3mil by the end of the weekend. Sony's uncancelled musical movie ANNIE has proved to be a hit, coming in at No. 3 with $5.3 mil and a projected $16-$17 mil weekend total.

Warner Bros. distribution EVP and general sales manager said of THE HOBBIT sequel, "We're over-indexing in Canada, playing strong in the Pacific and even in small and medium towns too."

Sony had originally scheduled ANNIE to open on Christmas day, and while theatre people have speculated that the decision to movie the opening date to Dec. 19 had to do with the fact that INTO THE WOODS, Disney's musical movie, Sony spokesmen say otherwise.

"By opening on the 19th, it gave us a chance to build word of mouth with kids being out of school," said Sony's worldwide distribution and marketing chief Rory Bruer. "It was bold in that sense: We knew there were two pictures that had a bit of cache to their franchises, but we always felt that Annie was different and special with everyone."
