Dylan O'Brien has set his sights on a new role.

According to Deadline, the TEEN WOLF star is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and JANE THE VIRGIN's Gina Rodriguez in the upcoming film DEEPWATER HORIZON, which chronicles "the infamous 2010 BP oil-rig explosion in the Gulf Of Mexico that killed 11 people and gushing oil into the water for 87 days." Matthew Michael Carnahan penned the film's script, which Peter Berg will direct.

Based on the New York Times article by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, DEEPWATER HORIZON follows an electrician stationed on the oil rig (Wahlberg) and, per Variety's recent report, "Andrea Fleytas, the 23-year-old who was monitoring the oil rig's safety systems in the moments before the explosion. She testified later that she did not immediately sound an alarm because she had not been training to deal with multiple warnings." Rodriguez will play Fleytas should she officially sign on.

O'Brien would take on the role of "Caleb Holloway, the youngest crew member who survives, but who is devastated to have lost a majority of his crew."

DEEPWATER HORIZON will hit theaters on Sept. 30, 2016.

O'Brien recently starred in THE MAZE RUNNER, and will seen in the film's sequel, 'THE SCORCH TRIALS,' later this year. His other credits include THE INTERNSHIP and a guest starring role on Fox's Zooey Deschanel-led comedy NEW GIRL.
