Sigourney Weaver in Talks to Join MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF ASHES?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver of Broadway's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, is in talks to join the cast of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF ASHES, the sequel to Constantin's CITY OF BONES.

Many of the cast members from the first film will be returning for the second, which will also be directed by Harald Zwart. CITY OF BONES features Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers, Robert Sheehan, Jemima West and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

The story, based on the book series by Cassandra Clare, will pick up with a girl (played by Collins) who finds out she is a Shadhowhunter who tracks demons and finds herself in a world of vampires, werewolves, faeries, alongisde the guy she loves, another Shadowhunter (played by Bower).

Weaver is set to play the leader of the Shadowhunters on a mission to avenge her son's death. The sequel is aiming to begin production in October 2013.

Weaver's other Broadway credits include Sex and Longing, Hurlyburly and The Constant Wife. Her upcoming film projects include It Is What It Is, Body Art, and Avatar 2. Past movie credits include Vamps, The Cabin in the Woods, Avatar, Infamous, The Village, Holes, Galaxy Quest, Alien, Ghostbusters and more.
