Award-winning filmmaker Francisco's short film "Mediation" is set to screen at the upcoming 14th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival as well as the 9th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival.

"Mediation" is the first project released by the brand new Film/TV production company entitled Top Rebel Productions - the brainchild of actor Freddy Rodriguez, Francico Lorite and veteran producer Bill Winett. The short tells the story of a divorce mediation that spirals completely out of control for a husband (Freddy Rodriguez), his soon-to-be ex-wife (Marley Shelton) and their court-appointed mediator (Marilyn Sanabria).

Tackling the age-old question "how far would one go for love?" Lorite, through his film noir style, shows that love can be irrational and can turn criminally tragic. Love is always a hot topic making news headlines. Take for instance our current obsession with the Oscar Pistorius trial. There are plenty of reasons why we as a society are fascinated with this trial: a celebrity killer, a gorgeous innocent victim and the everlasting controversial debate around gun violence. Yet what keeps us hooked above it all is the desire and need to know what was really going on in Pistorius' head when he pulled the trigger.

In other words, did Oscar Pistorius commit a crime of Passion in a fit of anger or was he a victim of an unfortunate accident in the name of love?

Loirte attempts to answer these questions showing that love has no boundaries.

Currently traveling the film festival circuit, "Mediation" is slated to screen at both the Beverly Hills Film Festival and the Sunscreen Film Festival.

The Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF), taking place April 23-27th, 2014, is an international competition dedicated to showcasing the art and talent of emerging filmmakers. Designed to bridge the world of premiere independent cinema with the renowned city of Beverly Hills, the BHFF welcomes over 20,000 attendees annually who congregate for 5 days of screenings, poolside celebrity panels, special events, seminars, VIP after parties and deal making.

Helping to shine a light on independent film productions, the 2014 Sunscreen Film Festival running May 1-4, is four day event held yearly in St. Petersburg, Florida. "Mediation" will be among the 125 films selected to be featured at the 9th edition of the annual fest.
While the short film is continuing to make its film festival stops, Lorite is working on his new project, "Cargo" - Top Rebel's first feature film, which he will begin filming this winter.
Launched earlier this year, Top Rebel Productions, is offering a viable platform for Latin actors to break Hollywood stereotypes, and present characters that are moving beyond the outdated stereotypes. With Freddy Rodriguez and Francisco Lorite being of Latin origins, it was an important element to add to the company's mission statement and certainly a determining factor of the partnership.
Top Rebel also marks Freddy Rodriguez's new business venture and opportunity to increase his presence behind the camera. Rodriguez - who is returning to the small screen with the TV series "Night Shift" set to premiere on NBC May 27 - met Spanish filmmaker Francisco Lorite on the set of the feature film "Random". When the project failed to find proper funding, Freddy and Francisco opted to partner with their mutual long time friend/producer Bill Winett to form their own production company in an effort to tell stories they care about on their own terms while inspiring audiences.
The trio immediately went to work shooting "Mediation" - a short film borrowing from the film noire style of the 50s. As the first project released under the Top Rebel Productions marquee, "Mediation" presents and sets the tone for the production company's stable of projects and shows that excellent production can be accomplished with little budget.
