Jackson will portray Pat Novak, described as "a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world."
The film will be produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman. Shooting is set to get underway in September in Toronto with a tentative release date of summer 2013.
Jackson, who can currently be seen onscreen as Nick Fury in The Avengers, is shooting Quentin Tarantino’s drama Django Unchained. The award-winning actor made his Broadway debut in "The Mountaintop" as Martin Luther King Jr.
