Robert Redford to Direct, Star in A WALK IN THE WOODS
Redford has been attached to the project, an adaptation of Bill Bryson's novel, for years, but the site now reports that the actor will pull double-duty and direct as well. The script comes from LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE's Michael Arndt, who most recently signed on to pen the next installment in the STAR WARS franchise.
A WALK IN THE WOODS follows "a veteran writer who in a bid to revitalise his life heads off on the perilous Appalachian Trail with his overweight, recovering alcoholic friend."

Redford appeared on Broadway in the original 1963 production of Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park. He had previously been seen in Sunday in New York, Little Moon of Alban, The Highest Tree and Tall Story. Redford has been Oscar-nominated for his performance in The Sting. He won an Oscar for directing Ordinary People and another directing nomination for Quiz Show. His many other films, as an actor, include Spy Game, Indecent Proposal, All the President's Men, The Great Gatsby, The Way We Were and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He can next be seen in the film The Company You Keep, opposite Shia LaBeouf, in which he will also direct.
