Variety reports that Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel are set to topline The Weinstein Company's LION, an adaptation of Saroo Brierley's book A LONG WAY HOME. Garth Davis directs.

The story follows Brierley's "family in India being thrown into poverty by his father leaving his mother in the mid 1980s. At the age of five, he was separated from his family after he and his older brothers began begging at the railway station for food and money. He wound up on the streets of Calcutta, where he was eventually rescued and adopted by an Australian family. Brierley learned English and grew up as a typical Australian but decided as an adult -- using Google Earth and only a few faint clues -- to try tracking down his mother and was reunited with her in 2011."

Also in the cast are Indian stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval.

Shooting will begin this week in Kolkata, India.

Among Kidman's upcoming big screen projects are Strangerland, THE FAMILY Fang, Queen of the Desert, Genius and The Secret in Their Eyes. She can currently be seen in PADDINGTON and recently starred in Before I Go to Sleep, Grace of Monaco, THE RAILWAY MAN and Stoker.

Patel's next films are The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Chappie and The Man Who Knew Infinity. He recently appeared on TV in HBO's The Newsroom and starred on the big screen in The Road Within and About Cherry. He is best known for his role in Slumdog Millionaire.
