The blowout of the Sony hack and threats towards the new Seth Rogen/James Franco comedy THE INTERVIEW is being felt at other studios.

According to Deadline, New Regency has abandoned plans for a new "paranoid" thriller directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Steve Carell - which was set in North Korea. Steve Conrad penned the film's script.

Production was slated to begin next March.

THE INTERVIEW has come up against a slew of controversy following a cyberattack on Sony studios on November 24th. Yesterday, the hackers responsible for the crime released additional internal Sony information and referred to the September 11 attacks on New York City in an email to reporters, which reads: "Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you'd better leave.)"

On Tuesday, the studio offered theater owners who had previously booked the film the option to back out of their commitment. Last night, Carmike Cinemas was among the first to cancel its screenings of the film. In addition, The Department of Homeland Security revealed that it found no EVIDENCE that there was an active plot targeting movie theaters in the United States.

Carell will next appear in Foxcatcher, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The Minions.

His recent big screen credits include Anchorman 2, Despicable Me 2, NBC's The Office, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, The Way Way Back, Seeking a Friend at the End of the World, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and more.
