Sir Michael Caine, one of the world's most acclaimed screen actors, has played many legendary roles in his distinguished career. On Wednesday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m., Museum of the Moving Image will present Sir Michael Caine, Icon, an evening of conversation with Caine about his tough-guy roles, moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz. The discussion will be followed by an exclusive preview screening of his latest movie, Harry Brown (opening April 30th), in which Caine plays a widowed veteran who seeks vengeance against a youth gang after his friend is murdered. The program is presented in association with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Along with Jack Nicholson, Michael Caine is the only actor with Oscar nominations in every decade since the 1960s. Caine has played a wide range of characters, some aristocratic, some reflecting his working-class roots. Among his tough-guy roles are a brutal hitman in Get Carter (1970), a gold thief in The Italian Job (1969), and a British officer in his star-making role in Zulu (1964). He has won two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and The Cider House Rules (1999). Born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite in South London in 1933, Caine was the son of a fish market porter. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.

Harry Brown, his latest film, will be released in theaters on April 30th, by Samuel Goldwyn Films. (2009, 97 mins. Directed by Daniel Barber. With Emily Mortimer.)

"Sir Michael Caine, Icon" will take place at the Directors Guild Theater, located at 110 West 57 Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues), Manhattan. Tickets are $20 public / $12 Museum members / Free for sponsor-level members and above. Call 718.784.4520 or order online at http://movingimage.us.

Designed by architect Thomas Leeser, the project will double the size of the Museum and includes a new 264-seat theater, a 71-seat screening room, new galleries for the exhibition of digital art, and a multi-classroom education center.
