Miller Theatre Presents HOUSE OF DREAMS, 3/3

An imaginative multimedia concert, Tafelmusik's House of Dreams takes the audience on a journey through five homes in five European cities where, in the 17th and 18th centuries, exquisite works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Marais were performed in intimate settings against a backdrop of private collections of paintings by Vermeer, Canaletto, and Watteau. With narration, projected images of the paintings and homes, and music dynamically performed from memory, House of Dreams recreates the concert experience at the intersection of Baroque music and art.

Tafelmusik, Canada's award-winning period-instrument orchestra, is an internationally recognized ensemble that has been lauded by Gramophone Magazine as "one of the world's top baroque orchestras." Founded in 1979 by Kenneth Solway and Susan Graves and consisting of a core of seventeen permanent members, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra has been under the inspired leadership of Music Director Jeanne lamon since 1981. With its artist-focused mandate and commitment to excellence and innovation, Tafelmusik actively creates new contexts for the performance of baroque and classical music. In recent seasons, the orchestra made its debut at Carnegie Hall with sold-out performances that were praised by The New York Times for "stately, buoyant and crisply etched playing" and has performed in Europe's leading concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Barbican Centre in London. This season, Tafelmusik tours its multimedia program, House of Dreams, to Yale University's School of Music, the University of Washington's Meany Hall, La Jolla Music Society, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and elsewhere.
