Meryl Streep is set to narrate the upcoming documentary SHOUT GLADI GLADI, which examines the issues surrounding women's health in Africa.

The film catalogs the experiences Scottish activist Ann Gloag, who spent time working with women from poor villages in Kenya, Malawi, and Sierra. Philanthropist Melinda Gates and Nobel Peace laureate Wole Soyinka make appearances along the way.

The documentary will be co-directed by Adam Friedman and Iain Kennedy. Friedman is also producing the film alongside Gloag, who is serving as executive producer.

"Filming Shout was an extraordinary experience. My wife and I were stopped at Gunpoint in Malawi and were one of the last film crews shooting in Sierra Leone as the Ebola plague descended. But throughout the wonderful people of Africa and the amazing work that Ann's groups were doing inspired us to keep on keeping on," Friedman said.

"'This powerful film attests to the igniting power of one woman, Ann Gloag, to set in motion hundreds of helping hands, doctors, nurses, caregivers, family and friends, to resuscitate the health and status of victims of fistula, and to give them back their lives," Streep added in a statement.

Marshall has also directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Nine, Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago and the TV movie version of Annie.

Streep boasts more Academy Award nominations than any actor in history and won for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice and The Iron Lady. Among her recent film credits are August: Osage County, The Giver, Julie & Julia, Doubt, The Devil Wears Prada and more. The actress last appeared on Broadway in Happy End, and before that in The Cherry Orchard, Secret Service and Trelawny of the 'Wells'. Streep also graced the stage in two off-Broadway concerts.
