Could Melissa McCarthy be the next sci-fi star?

Columbia is remounting GHOSTBUSTERS and reportedly looking at Melissa McCarthy to star. She has been in early talks to star in THE COMEDY directed by Paul Feig (The Heat, Bridesmaids). However, a desire to have her in the film is just the beginning of a long, hurdle-jumping process.

McCarthy's schedule is currently filled to the brim with roles in CBS' Mike & Molly as well as many films including Universal's Michelle Darnell. Sources report that filming for Michelle Darnell, directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone (Tammy) may change its filming to March in order for McCarthy to take on GHOSTBUSTERS.

Also on the "interest" list for the role were Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, as well as Rebel Wilson who spoke with producer Ivan Reitman.

The GHOSTBUSTERS remake takes place as a prequel to the original 1984 film in which the characters first become ghostbusters. There are of course rumors that original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson may make cameos.
