Deadline writes that New Line has secured the rights to an untitled Mariah Carey Christmas film from RatPac Entertainment.

Carey will play a major role in the movie; not much yet on the plot, other than an idea about "how the power of music can transport you back in time to your truest and most authentic feelings." The project will feature songs by Carey and many other artists.

Writers David Diamond and David Weissman, who worked on the 2000 holiday film THE FAMILY MAN, are crafting the script. Jon Shestack is producing with RatPac's Brett Ratner, James Packer and John Cheng.

Carey, whose 1994 single "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide, has starred in several holiday concerts over the years, including CHRISTMAS IN ROCKEFELLER CENTER (pictured above).

The singer/actress has appeared on the big screen in LEE DANIELS' THE BUTLER, PRECIOUS, GLITTER and more.
