Deadline.com reports that Mamie Gummer will star in THE LIFEGUARD, a film written and directed by Liz W. Garcia. The actress joins cast members Kristen Bell, Martin Starr, Alex Shaffer, Joshua Harto and Amy Madigan. Mike Landry and Carlos Velazquez of C Plus Pictures will produce the film along with Harto and Garcia of La Pistola, Inc.

The film follows a reporter (Bell) who is "on the verge of 30 who abandons her life in New York City, returns home to get her high school job as a lifeguard, and starts a dangerous relationship with a 16-year-old delinquent." Filming is set to begin this month in Pittsburgh.

Gummer has most recently been seen in the films 'Taking Woodstock' and John Carpenter's 'TheWard and Twelve Thirty'. Her TV credits include the short lived 'The Map' on ABC and the John Adams miniseries on HBO.

Her theatre credits include Les Liasons Dangereuses, The School of Lies, Hunting and Gathering, Uncle Vanya, and The Water's Edge.
