Liza Minnelli Gives Surprise Performance at The Carlyle Last Night

According to the New York Post's Page Six, star of stage and screen, Liza Minnelli gave a spontaneous performance at New York's Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle last night.

The 'Cabaret' star came to see her long-time friend and pianist Billy Stritch, who is currently performing at the venue with Jim Caruso through May. Liza brought along a group of her celebrity friends, including Michael Feinstein and Clint Holmes.

According to a source, "Liza and Michael joined Billy and Jim to play a couple of numbers, including 'I Love a Violin,' written by Liza's godmother, Kay Thompson." Exclaimed the Tony Award winner, "This is the best party in New York!"

Page Six also reports that Minnelli and 'Kinky Boots' composer Cyndi Lauper will be present at Friday night's performance of Cher's "Dressed to Kill" tour at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Tony and Oscar winning Broadway, film and TV star Liza Minnelli has appeared on Broadway in Flora, The Red Menace -- for which she won the 1965 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical -- Liza, Chicago, The Act (another Tony win in 1978), The Rink, Victor / Victoria, Minnelli on Minnelli and Liza's at the Palace.

She also received a special Tony Award in 1978 She has appeared as herself on TV in Smash, The Voice UK, So You Think You Can Dance, The Apprentice and more, and she is also known for her portrayal of Lucille Austero in the now-Netflix-based comedy series Arrested Development.
