According to Film School Rejects, the classic Mel Brooks hit BLAZING SADDLES will be remade into a kid-friendly animated comedy. Brooks' original raunchy characters will be replaced by cats and dogs on a quest to become noteworthy samurais. The film will be called BLAZING SAMURAI.

The newly adapted plot strays far from the original, which was set in a all-white Western town run by a black sheriff as a satire of racism in stereotypical Western movies. BLAZING SAMURAI producer Robert Minkoff (THE LION KING) addressed the new plot in a Screen Daily interview, stating "I've always loved classic Japanese samurai movies and Mel Brooks. It may not be the most obvious combination but that's what they said about the teriyaki bagel."

In an interview with Vulture in 2012, Brooks gave the upcoming project his blessing. "It sounded cute to me," he said. "It's okay with me. I've got the originals. I've got the negatives. I've got the Real McCoy. If their version doesn't work well, that's okay. Let 'em try. I'm not going to stop anybody who has a great love for one of my movies and wants to try their version."

BLAZING SAMURAI is set to hit theaters April 14th, 2017.
