Kevin Kline & Israel Horovitz Set for 92Y's Reel Pieces Film Series, 9/8
Reel Pieces, the 92Y film series moderated by Annette Insdorf, continues on Monday, September 8 with actor Kevin Kline and his new film, My Old Lady. Following a preview screening of My Old Lady, Kline and writer-director Israel Horovitz will discuss the film with Insdorf.
Kevin Kline has won the Oscar (A Fish Called Wanda), the Tony (The Pirates of Penzance as well as On the Twentieth Century), and is a five-time Golden Globe nominee, for his roles in Sophie's Choice, Dave, In & Out, Soapdish and De-Lovely. His memorable films include The Big Chill, The Ice Storm and The Emperor's Club.
Making his film directorial debut is Israel Horovitz, the award winning author of over 70 plays (including The Indian Wants the Bronx). He adapted My Old Lady from his own play. A bittersweet drama with comic moment, the film follows New Yorker Mathias Gold (Kline) to a beautiful Paris neighborhood, where he tries to claim the sprawling apartment left to him in his estranged father's will. But he discovers tenants-Mathilde (Maggie Smith), who was close to his father, and her testy daughter (Kristin Scott-Thomas)-and must find a way to coexist with them.
Reel Pieces is 92Y's signature movie series, with more than 25 years of bringing audiences the best in film; Annette Insdorf, director of Undergraduate Film Studies at Columbia University, is the moderator.
