Kathy Bates to Star in 'Blind Side'

Variety is reporting that stage and screen actress Kathy Bates will star in football drama "The Blind Side" opposite Sandra Bullock with John Lee Hancock directing from his own script. Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment is financing and producing reports the trade paper. Gil Netter's producing along with Alcon co-toppers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove while Molly Smith, Erwin Stoff and Tim Bourne will exec produce.

The film is based on "The Blind Side: Evolution of the Game," by Michael Lewis, and follows Michael Oher, projected to be one of the first players selected in this year's NFL draft. He was homeless as a teen and was taken in by a well-to-do family.

Bates, reports Variety will play a no-nonsense tutor who is hired by the matriarch of the household, portrayed by Bullock.

Bates previously worked with Alcon on "P.S. I Love You" and most recently appeared in "Revolutionary Road." 

Oscar®-winning actress Kathy Bates will play the roles of Mother Swan and Sam's Mom. She was nominated for a Tony Award® for her performance in the original Broadway production of ‘night, Mother and won an Obie Award for her performance as Frankie in the original Off-Broadway production of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Her film credits include Misery, Primary Colors, About Schmidt, Fried Green Tomatoes, Titanic, Fred Claus, Charlotte's Web, Failure to Launch, Little Black Book, Prelude to a Kiss and most recently, P.S. I Love You. Kathy lent her voice to the animated comedy Bee Movie and The Golden Compass. She was nominated for an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award for the television musical movie Annie.
