John Turturro to Be Honored at CAMERIMAGE Film Festival

Golden Globe nominee and Emmy winner John Turturro (Transformers, Fading Gigolo, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, Transformers: Dark of the Moon); Two-time Academy Award winner Rick Carter (Avatar, Forrest Gump, Jurassic Park), and celebrated filmmaker Joan Churchill (Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer, Shut Up & Sing, Kurt & Courtney) will be honoured at CAMERIMAGE, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, which takes place November 16th - 23rd.

Golden Globe nominated actor John Turturro will be presented with the Festival's distinguished 'Special Award to Actor-Director.'; Two-time Oscar winning production designer and art director Rick Carter will be the recipient of the Festival's 'Production Designer with Unique Visual Sensitivity Award.' Award winning cinematographer and filmmaker Joan Churchill will be bestowed the Festival's 'Award for Outstanding Achievements in Documentary Filmmaking."

Turturro, Carter and Churchill join Academy Award nominated cinematographer Sawomir Idziak (Black Hawk Down, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Gattaca) as honorees who will be in Bydgoszcz to personally accept their awards and take part in Festival activities unique to Camerimage. Idziak will receive the Festival's esteemed 'Lifetime Achievement Award.'

John Turturro is an American actor, writer and director known for his roles in the films Do the Right Thing, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the Transformers film series and Quiz Show, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He has appeared in over sixty films, and has worked frequently with the Coen brothers, Adam Sandler and Spike Lee.

He most recently wrote and directed the comedy Fading Gigolo, which he also stars in, alongside Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber and Sofia Vergara. The film will have its Polish premiere at the festival.

Other notable acting credits include Mr. Deeds, You Don't Mess with the Zohan, comedy Anger Management,Secret Window, Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd, Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, Box of Moon Light, Cars 2 and Tony Scott's The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.

Turturro directed several films including the drama Illuminata, rom com musical Romance and Cigarettes and Passione. His stage directorial debut was in October 2011, with the Broadway play Relatively Speaking, written by Elaine May, Woody Allen and Ethan Coen.

In addition, Turturro won an Emmy award for his portrayal of Adrian Monk's brother Ambrose in the USA Network series Monk, and has reprised the role on numerous occasions.

Rick Carter is known for his work in the film Forrest Gump, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He has also received numerous nominations of other awards for his work in Amistad and A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Notable credits include Cast Away, War of the Worlds, What Lies Beneath, Jurassic Park, Avatar, Back to the Future Part II and Part III, and War Horse, which earned him another Oscar nomination. For his part in the Art Direction of Avatar, he was awarded the Academy Award alongside Robert Stromberg and Kim Sinclair. In 2013, Carter won his second Academy Award for production design on Steven Spielberg's biopic, Lincoln.

Joan Churchill is an award-winning cinematographer, producer and director with industry experience spanning over four decades specializing in documentary films. She is known for her work on such films as, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer, Punishment Park, Shut Up & Sing and Kurt & Courtney.

Other notable credits include Twilight: Los Angeles, Down from the Mountain, Snowblind, Bearing Witness, Searching for Jimi Hendrix, Bastards of the Party, Letting Go of God, Comic Book Confidential, and Things We Did Last Summer.

The 21st edition of Camerimage will screen over 300 feature and short films, grouped into 24 sections, including 10 competitions. There are films from 50 countries around the world. Approximately 30 films will have their European premieres in Bydgoszcz, and more that 50 will have their Polish premieres.

Camerimage's prestigious Golden Frog, Silver Frog and Bronze Frog awards will be bestowed upon competition titles representing the greatest achievements in cinematography. In the Student Etudes Competition, the Festival awards Golden Tadpole, Silver Tadpole and Bronze Tadpole.
