John Leguizamo Nabs COCAINE Escobar Role With Theatrical Audition
Notable stage performer and recognizable all-around thespian John Leguizamo is set for an exciting new role in a feature film, no less than the story of cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar, and it is all thanks to a highly theatrical audition given by the multi-media star - at his own expense, to boot!
Donning elaborate and expensive prosthetics in addition to costume padding, Leguizamo reportedly seemed to virtually transform into the infamous drug crime figure's personage in his audition tape, which apparently thrilled Relativity executives and impelled them to sign him on the spot after previous producers in the past were apparently a bit more hesitant to do so. Oscar Isaac was originally announced to lead the film when the project was first established as being in development.
The Escobar biopic is titled KING OF COCAINE and it is set to be directed by Brad Furman, whom Lequizamo previously collaborated with onscreen in THE LINCOLN LAWYER and THE TAKE. It is set to start filming later this year.
Giving it all and really stepping up to the plate in the audition does pay off from time to time after all!
Of note, Leguizamo was most recently seen on Broadway in his self-penned autobiographical solo piece Ghetto Klown.
