Jason Robert Brown's 13 THE MUSICAL Coming to the Big Screen!
Looks like we'll all have a little more homework to do! CBS Films has today announced plans to bring Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown's stage musical 13 to the big screen!
Bert V. Royal (Easy A) is writing the screenplay adaptation and Laurence Mark is producing. Mark most recently produced the hit film Last Vegas for CBS Films, and his last musical feature was the award-winning smash hit Dreamgirls. Bob Boyett, who produced 13 on stage, is also producing, and David Blackman is serving as executive producer.
The story revolves around a thirteen-year-old boy who moves from New York City, where he is the king of his class, to a small town in Indiana where his classmates look at him as if he's from another planet. Anxious to be popular, his scheme to win acceptance backfires and threatens to alienate his true friends.
Jason Robert Brown wrote the music and lyrics for 13 and will do the same for the film. Dan Elish and Robert Horn wrote the stage musical's book. Brown won a Tony Award earlier this year for his score for The Bridges of Madison County and has previously won for Parade.
Vice President of Production Mark Ross and Creative Executive Winnie Kemp are overseeing the project for CBS Films.
The musical ran on Broadway in 2008 and starred Al Calderon as Eddie, Eamon Foley as Richie, Caitlin Gann as Molly, Ariana Grande as Charlotte, Aaron Simon Gross as Archie, Elizabeth Gillies as Lucy, Malik Hammond as Malcolm, Joey La Varcoas Simon, Delaney Moro as Kendra, Eric Nelsen as Brett, Graham Phillips as Evan, Allie Trimm as Patrice, Brynn Williams as Cassie.
