According to The Huffington Post, Jane Fonda is currently in talks to portray former first lady Nancy Reagan in the upcoming film THE BUTLER. The film will be directed by Lee Daniels.

THE BUTLER is based on a story first published in the Washington Post after President Obama came to office. It centers on EuGene Allen, a White House employee who served as a butler through eight presidential administrations spanning from 1952 to 1986. Actor Forest Whitaker is now in talks to take on the role of Allen and Oprah Winfrey may possibly portray his wife, Helene.

In addition to Fonda, other stars rumored to be considering roles in the historical epic include Liam Neeson and John Cusack as former presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon, respectively, Mila Kunis for Jackie Kennedy, and Hugh Jackman, for either Dwight D. Eisenhower or John F. Kennedy.

Fonda was last seen on the big screen in 2007's "Georgia Rule".
