According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron will start work on his BATTLE ANGEL ALITA manga adaptation in 2017, following the completion of his upcoming two AVATAR films.

Cameron told the audience at Mexico City's TagDF conference the project could "one-up" AVATAR with its storyline and character development.

Yukito Kishiro created the original manga in 1990, which ran for five years. The story centers on a cyborg who ends up in a dump with memory loss but eventually goes on to fight crime and become a sports star.

Six years after the series ended, the story was revamped as BATTLE ANGEL ALITA: LAST ORDER, which included a rewrite of the original manga's final chapters.

Cameron has reportedly begun development on the script. BWW will keep you updated as more news trickles in!
