India to Be Honored as Guest Country at 2013 Cannes Festival

Cannes director of film department Christian Jeune has announced that India will be the guest country at next year's Cannes Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The country, which next year will mark it centenary year in cinema, joins Egypt and Brazil, the two most recent recipients of the honor.  

In a statement made on behaf of Cannes general delegate Thierry Fremaux, Jeune remarked, “We are pleased to announce that India will be the guest country at the 2013 Cannes film festival. With Indian cinema celebrating 100 years, this would be a good way to mark the celebrations. We are also pleased to make this announcement at the NFDC Film Bazaar and the International Film Festival of India. We are looking forward to welcoming a large delegation from India at Cannes.”

Jeune's announcement was made at the four-day Film Bazaar market in Goa, an event run by India’s National Film Development Corporation. The Bazaar, which is running concurrently with the International Film Festival of India, will end this Saturday.
