Helena Bonham Carter in Talks to Star in Historic Drama SUFFRAGETTE
Variety reports that Helena Bonham Carter is currently in discussions to join Carey Mulligan in the upcoming historic drama SUFFERAGETTE. Sarah Gavron will direct.
The film is based on actual events and follows, "the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement: women who were forced underground in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State."
Bonham Carter, who just nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Elizabeth Taylor in the BBC's "Burton and Taylor" will next appear on the big screen in Disney's "Cinderella" as The Fairy Godmother.
Bonham Carter is known for her roles in films such as A Room with a View, Fight Club, and playing the villainess Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series. She frequently works with director and domestic partner Tim Burton in films such as Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows. In 2012 she played Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, and Madame Thénardier in LES MISERABLES.
A two-time Academy Award nominee for her performances in The Wings of the Dove and The King's Speech, Bonham Carter's acting has been further recognised with six Golden Globe nominations, an International Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
