CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER officially needs a new leading lady.

Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter alongside Chris Evans in 2011's CAPTAIN AMERICA, has confirmed to Timeout that she will not be reprising her role in the upcoming sequel.

"She won't, she confirms, be back for the latter's sequel, which moves the action into the present day," the magazine reports.

However, it appears the role will be written within the Carter lineage. Over the the summer, actresses such as Jessica Brown Findlay of DOWNTON ABBEY, Emilia Clarke (GAME OF THRONES, Broadway's upcoming BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S), and Alison Brie (COMMUNITY) were rumored to take on 'Sharon Carter,' niece of Peggy. As of now, no official casting has been announced.

Chris Evans will return for the sequel as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. In addition, AVENGERS co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders are set to appear. Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo have also signed on.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, is set for an April 4, 2014 theatrical release.
