Call out to emerging film makers to unveil beauty in the annual GreenRoom Short Film Competition

Registrations are open for emerging film makers aged 18 - 30 to enter the GreenRoom Short Film Competition hosted by the Adelaide Festival Centre's GreenRoom arts membership program.

The competition is an annual event as part of the Centre's highly successful OzAsia Festival, aimed at celebrating young emerging filmmakers and recognising the talent of local artists. This year's Festival focus is on Adelaide's sister city Shandong, which is known as a pivotal cultural and religious site for Taoism, Chinese Buddhism and Confucianism. Confucius was born in Shandong so it is fitting that this year's theme for the competition is based on the well-known Confucius proverb:

"Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it"

Films must be no longer than seven minutes and be created around this theme.

This year the prize pool has got even bigger with $2000 in cash thanks to ANZ and the winning film will be screened at the prestigious 2015 Adelaide Film Festival. ANZ have generously agreed to reward the People's Choice Award with a $500 cash prize and GreenRoom will reward the runner up with $500.

An ANZ representative said, "ANZ has proudly supported the OzAsia Festival for four years and are once again sponsoring the GreenRoom Short Film Competition. ANZ is proud to support this great initiative that captures the spirit of the young filmmakers and gives them the opportunity to display their skills and their passion for telling their story through film and is providing a prize to the winning film."

Joseph Mitchell, OzAsia Festival Director, said "OzAsia Festival is excited to be providing emerging young film makers the chance to hone their skills and showcase their talent at a grass roots level. What an amazing opportunity for the winner to have their film screened at the 2015 Adelaide Film Festival".

The competition has been a great stepping stone to success for previous entrants with last year's winning film BIRDBATH's actor James Smith winning best performer at this year's South Australian Screen Awards and the winner of the 2012 winner Pardesi, receiving a nomination for Best Comedy at the 2013 South Australian Screen Awards. Evidence that GreenRoom Short Film Competition definitely provides a platform for young emerging artists.

Adelaide Festival Centre's GreenRoom program offers members aged 18-30 access to cheap tickets, workshops and unique events and is one of the only programs of its kind in the country. One in six GreenRoom advocates become employed in the arts sector and being a GreenRoom member is a no brainer for young people on a budget. This is an important audience who shouldn't be precluded from experiencing everything Adelaide Festival Centre has to offer. GreenRoom gives advocates the Green Light to dive into the arts, be it as an administrator, an artist or an audience member.

The GreenRoom Short Film Competition is organised by the members of the GreenRoom 2014 Advocacy Program which offers young people professional development in the arts.

GreenRoom Co-ordinator Leanne Cotter says, "If you're between the ages of 18 and 30, have a creative edge, love film, culture and dream of seeing your name in the credits at the cinema, start creating your entry in this year's GreenRoom Short Film Competition".

Don't delay, registrations close 11 August, and up to 12 finalists will be screened at the Mercury Cinema on 9 September. T & C's apply adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au/greenroom
