FilmDistrict announced today that they have bumped up the release of their upcoming thriller, OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, to March 22, 2013. The film was previously set for an April 5 theatrical release.

Antoin Fuqua's OLYMPUS centers on the president (Aaron Eckhart) and "key members of his administration taken hostage," in The White House "and a Secret Service agent (Butler) who tries to stop the plot." Angela Bassett and Morgan Freeman also star.

Sony's WHITE HOUSE DOWN, also a thriller set in the president's home, is set to hit theaters on June 28. FilmDistrict reportedly felt the two films, both similiar in plot, theme, and characters, should open further apart from each other in 2013.

The script was penned by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt with Mark Gill, Alan Siegel and Butler producing the Millennium Films project. Avi Lerner and Trevor Short are executive producing.
