EXPENDABLES, COPS Top Fandango's Weekend Fanticipation Chart
According to Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, action sequel, "The Expendables 3," raunchy comedy, "Let's Be Cops," and Jeff Bridges' production of the young adult classic, "The Giver" are the top new releases Fandango fans most want to see this weekend. The films scored an impressive 82, 80 and 68 out of 100 points respectively, on the company's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator. At the same time, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" hold strong in their second and third weeks at the box office.
"There's definitely something for everyone at the movies this weekend," says Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger. "Action lovers will enjoy the spectacle of 'The Expendables 3,' comedy fans will get raucous laughs out of 'Let's Be Cops,' and younger audiences will flock to 'The Giver,' a thought-provoking, futuristic drama with a dream cast."
Based on the seminal young adult novel, "The Giver" has a huge following among teens and young adults. Fandango surveyed more than 1,000 "Giver" ticket-buyers on its site and found that:
• 82% read the book as part of a school reading program;
• 80% have seen "The Hunger Games" movies;
• 72% plan to see "The Giver" with a group of friends;
• 63% are excited to see Taylor Swift on the big screen in a small but pivotal role.
On Fandango's weekly movie recommendation show, "Weekend Ticket," Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger breaks down the three new releases and catches up with Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, producer and star of "The Giver." On working with co-star Taylor Swift, Bridges recalls, "That was so much fun, sitting at the piano with Taylor. In between takes, we broke out the guitars, man, and did some picking. It was quite a musical group. We had a lot of jam sessions." The full episode can be viewed at http://www.fandango.com/WeekendTicket.
About Fandango's Fanticipation
Known for having its finger on the pulse of moviegoers, Fandango's movie buzz indicator, Fanticipation, provides statistical insight into the movies fans are planning to see in a given weekend. Fanticipation scores (based on a 1 to 100-point scale) are calculated via an algorithm of Fandango's advance ticket sales, website and mobile traffic, and social media engagement. Fanticipation is not intended as a forecast of the weekend box office; it is a snapshot of movie fan sentiment.
