STAR WARS will soon be making its way into Disney Parks - but don't expect the upcoming attractions to be based on George Lucas' original films.

At Variety's Dealmakers Breakfast today, Disney's Bob Iger confirmed that the theme park features will be inspired by the new films, the first of which, directed by J.J. Abrams, will open on December 18, 2015.

"There will be a much larger 'Star Wars' presence in our parks globally," Iger said. "But we want to do this big, which takes time, and to do it right."

Lucas sold the rights to the Star Wars franchise to Disney in 2012, and Abrams then took the position of director for the seventh film.

Star Wars The Force Awakens will star John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. The actors will join original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The film is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on .
