Disney's MALEFICENT Conjures Up More Than 80% of Fandango's Weekend Ticket Sales

According to Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie as the title sorceress, is casting a spell on ticket-buyers. The Disney adventure is conjuring up more than 80% of the company's weekend ticket sales and topping Fandango's Fanticipation movie buzz indicator with a magical 91 out of 100 points. It's currently outselling "Snow White and the Huntsman" at the same point in the Fandango sales cycle.
"It's a great juicy titular turn for Angelina," says Fandango Chief Correspondent Dave Karger. "Thanks to her entertaining performance and the film's entrancing visual splendor, theaters will be filled with families with older kids, as well as couples on a date this weekend."
Fandango's Karger interviews Angelina Jolie in this week's episode of Fandango's movie recommendation show, "Weekend Ticket," and points out that the studio wouldn't have made "Maleficent" without her. "I don't know if that's movie industry clout, or some kind of acknowledgment that I'm pure evil," laughs Jolie. "They did say to me, 'How do you feel about being considered perfect for this particular role?' It's an odd-back-handed compliment in a way, but I'll take it - I like her."
At the end of the "Weekend Ticket" episode, Karger challenges Jolie to a fun trivia quiz about her own movies, from "Girl, Interrupted" to "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," asking her to identify the source of her own classic one-liners (like "Never send a boy to do a woman's job!").
