Camerimage, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, announced today that five-time Oscar® nominee Caleb Deschanel will receive the coveted 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at this year's Festival taking place November 15th - 22nd.

In addition to receiving Camerimage's prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award', Deschanel will present screenings of his films followed by a Q&A with the festival audience at the 22nd edition of the popular Festival.

The 'Lifetime Achievement Award' recognizes exceptional filmmakers who have changed the way movies are made with their creativity, visual skills and Passion for their craft. These individuals are able, in each of their projects, to become valuable partners to directors, producers, actors, production designers and other professionals on set, while remaining firm and tolerant leaders of their own crews. In addition to great framing, superb use of colors, and the mastery in handling light while shooting, Camerimage also recognizes merit in the awareness of using the available means, prowess in working with all the external and internal limitations, and the ability of cooperating with others for the sole purpose of creating the best film possible.

Caleb Deschanel is a legendary cinematographer and film/TV director with over four decades of experience in the industry. His work was crucial in creating one of the essential tools of modern cinematographers - the Steadicam. Deschanel's award-winning work has garnered him five Academy Award® nominations in the 'Best Cinematography' category for acclaimed features including "The Right Stuff," 'The Natural," "Fly Away Home," "The Patriot" and The "Passion of the Christ."

Other notable credits include "A Woman Under the Influence," "Being There," "The Black Stallion," "National Treasure," "The Spiderwick Chronicles," "My Sister's Keeper," "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," and "Jack Reacher" starring Tom Cruise.

Deschanel directed his first feature film "The Escape Artist" in 1982, and later, "Crusoe," in 1989. He has also directed episodes for various TV shows including the David Lynch series "Twin Peaks," "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," "Conviction" and "Bones."

Throughout his career, Deschanel has shot in almost every possible way, from 16mm cameras to working digitally with ARRI Alexa and staging in 3D. He often emphasized that his biggest interest when working on a project is to always complement his work with the director's vision and to create art that should spark a dialogue between filmmakers and the audience. This is the personal ethos Deschanel brings to each and every set he works on and into each and every discussion about the art of cinematography he participates in.

Deschanel was an original member of the American Zoetrope production team, along with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.

In 2010, he was awarded the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Cinematographers.
