CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON Sequel to Start Production in May

Related: CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, The Weinstein Company

According to Deadline, the much-anticipated CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON is just mere months from a start date.

The film, to be shot in Asia, is eyeing a start date sometime in May. The Weinstein Company is currently in talks with Ronny Yu to helm the film, written by John Fusco.

The sequel - not yet titled - is based upon SILVER VASE, IRON KNIGHT, the fifth book in Wang Du Lu's Crane-Iron series. It will continue on with the story of Ang-Lee's Oscar-winning film, following 'Yu Shu Lien,' originally played by Michelle Yeoh. CROUCHING TIGER was based upon the fourth book in the pentalogy.

"This introduces a new generation of star-crossed lovers," Fusco told Deadline. "And a new series of antagonists in a battle of good and evil. It has a Knights Errant quality. There is an alternate universe in the books, a martial forest that exists alongside the real world, full of wandering sword fightersm medicine men, defrocked priests, poets, sorcerers and Shaolin renegades. It's so vast and rich, and I found characters from the second and third books in the series to create a most interesting stew while being as true to the source material as I could be."

As of now, no CROUCHING TIGERS cast members have signed on to reprise their roles, though they're believed to be in negotiations.
