Deadline writes that THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT star Billy Crudup has signed on for 20TH CENTURY WOMEN from writer-director Mike Mills.

Crudup joins Annette Bening, Elle Fanning and Greta Gerwig in the cast. The plot, set in 1979, "follows a single mother named Dorothea (Bening) as she struggles to raise her troubled teenage son."

Crudup will play "one of her boarders" who "rents the bungalow out behind the main house." His character is described as "a former hippie who now seems like a bit of a slacker, with no real direction in life" and "the hunky handyman type, a skilled mechanic, carpenter, plumber, and electrician, but he's got a sweet side."

Crudup's upcoming movie projects include SPOTLIGHT, LIFE AT THESE SPEEDS and YOUTH IN OREGON. He can currently be seen on the big screen in 'PRISON EXPERIMENT' and recently appeared in the films THE LONGEST WEEK, RUDDERLESS, EAT PRAY LOVE and more.

The Tony-winning actor last starred on Broadway in NO MAN'S LAND and WAITING FOR GODOT with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Among his past credits on the Great White Way are ARCADIA, THE COAST OF UTOPIA, THE PILLOWMAN, THE ELEPHANT MAN, THE THREE SISTERS and BUS STOP.
