The Daily Mail reports that Billy Elliot could dance onto the big screen soon -- ish. The musical's producer Eric Fellner, who also runs Working Title Films, told the Mail, "We just need to act on it."

Fellner said he has discussed the possibility with composer Elton John, book writer & lyricist Lee Hall, director Stephen Daldry, and choreographer Peter Darling.

Being as high profile as they are, the team is knee-deep in other projects, which means a BILLY ELLIOT movie will likely have to wait in the wings for a while.

The musical celebrates its 10-year anniversary in the West End next week on May 12, and has now been seen by over 10 million people worldwide, including 5 million at its London home. The show is also eyeing a UK tour over the 2016-17 season.

BILLY ELLIOT is set in a northern mining town, against the background of the 1984/'85 miners' strike. Billy's journey takes him out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.

With over 500 children having now performed on the Victoria Palace Theatre stage, the company has pirouetted through almost 3000 ballet shoes.

Billy Elliot the Musical is the recipient of over 80 awards internationally, including ten Tony Awards and five Oliviers, including the 2013 Audience Award. Liam Mower, James Lomas and George Maguire, the first three boys to play the title role, went on to win Olivier awards for their performances, with the show also winning the Olivier for Best Musical.

In total, world-wide, 83 boys have now played the iconic role, including Jamie Bell who played Billy Elliot in the film, and in March this year the London production welcomed the 40th young boy to the company in the title role.
