Talk about a roller coaster ride! According to Indiewire, the Sony-TV planned reboot of Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills COP has now been officially axed, however plans for a movie version of the 1980's hit comedy are underway at Paramount Studios.

Brandon T. Jackson was to star in the lead role of the TV project, to be executive produced by Murphy and Shawn Ryan. The remake was to be a sequel to the trilogy of films that featured sharp talking detective Axel Foley (Murphy) in his escapades througout Los Angeles. According to the series description, "Axel's blue-collar police officer son, Aaron (Jackson), helps take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while trying to escape the shadow of his larger-than-life father." Murphy was to make repeat appearances in the show.

In May, CBS passed on the series adaptation and efforts to get picked up by other networks proved unsuccessful. Today, Ryan posted to Twitter, "Sad to report that efforts to land Beverly Hills Cop pilot at another network have failed. This iteration is dead for now." However, the showrunner added, "Good news for fans of franchise is that the pilot tested so well, it has caused Paramount to put another #BHC movie into development.

Guess Axel won't be 'axed' after all!
