BAFTA to Host 'A Life In Pictures' with Jim Broadbent

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced that double BAFTA-winning, and Oscar-winning, actor Jim Broadbent will be discussing his career, spanning more than 30 years in film and television, during a 'BAFTA A Life In Pictures' event on Wednesday 4 December. The event, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, will take place at BAFTA's headquarters, 195 Piccadilly in London.

'BAFTA A Life In Pictures' is a long-running series of onstage interviews in which some of the film world's leading talent discuss their life and career and share insights into the experiences that helped them hone and develop their crafts. The series has hosted leading names including Dustin Hoffman, Martin Scorsese, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Kenneth Branagh and Helen Mirren.

Multi-award-winning actor Jim Broadbent started out on stage, before moving into film and television, with early roles including the film Time Bandits and television dramas Silas Marner and Crown Court. Broadbent has over 130 screen credits to his name covering a diverse range of genres, from comedy to fantasy and from biopics to animation. His credits include films such as Cloud Atlas, Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Magic Roundabout, Gangs of New York, Bridget Jones' Diary, Hot Fuzz and the Harry Potter series, and have seen him work with directors including Steven Spielberg, Baz Luhrmann and Mike Leigh.

Jim Broadbent was nominated for a British Academy Film Award in 2000 for his performance in the lead role in Topsy-Turvy, and in 2002 he was awarded his first BAFTA for 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role' in the film Moulin Rouge. In the same year he was BAFTA-nominated for playing John Bayley in the film Iris, a performance for which he won an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award.

Broadbent was awarded his second BAFTA at the British Academy Television Awards in 2007, as well as a Golden Globe Award, for his portrayal of the titular character in the single drama Longford. He has also received two further British Academy Television Award nominations: one in 2004 for The Young Visiters, and another in 2011 for Any Human Heart.

Jim Broadbent's most recent BAFTA nomination came in 2012 for his performance as Denis Thatcher in the film The Iron Lady. He can currently be seen in the films Le Week-End and Filth.
