USA Today reports that an authorized sequel to the best-selling book series GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is set to hit bookshelves on August 27th from Knopf publishing.

The novel will be penned by David Lagercrantz and will be based on the books series by Stieg Larsson, who passed away in 2004. The project is in cooperation with his estate.

Commented Joakim and Erland Larsson, of the Stieg Larsson Estate in a news release, "By letting David Lagercrantz write his own Millennium novel we keep the characters and the universe Stieg Larsson created alive. This new work hews closely to the first three Millennium novels and is faithful to those characters; it is wholly new and contemporary - the perfect way for readers to resume their acquaintance with Lisbeth and Mikael."

The crime novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson is the first book of the Millennium trilogy, which, when published posthumously in 2005, became a best-seller in Europe and the United States.

The 2011 film adaptation was directed by David Fincher and written by Steven Zaillian. Starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, it tells the story of journalist Mikael Blomkvist's (Craig) investigation to find out what happened to a woman from a wealthy family who disappeared forty years prior. He recruits the help of computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Mara).
