Outlook.com Launches Skype Preview for US Customers
Just announced over @ Outlook.com, the long-anticipated preview of Skype is now available in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, France, Canada, and the United States. Other countries are said to be coming soon. They've made it easy to make one-click calls... Will this be enough to make people switch from Gmail and elsewhere? Let us know what you think! Here's the details:
We believe that your email should work with things you already use. Outlook.com already connects with your Facebook, Skype, and Google friends. Now that you can make Skype video calls from Outlook.com, it's even easier to stay connected to the people you care about most.
Email is an important and personal tool for most people, but there are moments when you want to be able to speak live or chat face-to-face. In a recent Ipsos Public Affairs poll 76% of people say that their email conversations frequently or occasionally result in a follow up phone or video call, or other means of communication. Those moments are perfect for Skype and now, face-to-face connection right from your inbox is just a click away.
Celebrating Skype for Outlook.com availability, a perfect pairing
To celebrate the availability of Skype for Outlook.com in the United States we have partnered with Gail Simmons, food expert and author. As a busy professional who is always on the go, Gail understands the importance of keeping in touch with friends and family. We partnered with her to announce a contest where consumers can submit a recipe for a chance to make a video call with Gail via Skype for Outlook.com. For every entry Outlook.com will donate $10 to Common Threads, a charity that promotes healthy eating with kids--and if the entry comes from an Outlook.com account, we'll donate $20! You can learn more about the contest and enter atchow.com/outlook.
