Giving customers a taste of the past, Whataburger and H-E-B announced today the introduction of Whataburger's new Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips. Whataburger originally offered customers potato chips when the first restaurant opened in 1950, and continued serving them until introducing french fries to the menu in 1962. To tie back to its heritage, Whataburger has created crunchy, kettle-cooked chips inspired by some of its most popular restaurant flavors.

Whataburger's Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips include:

Honey BBQ

  • Inspired by Whataburger's All-Time Favorite, the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich, the flavor of the Honey BBQ chips combines a hint of salt with the sweet flavor of Whataburger's tried-and-true Honey BBQ sauce, also available at H-E-B.

Jalapeño Ranch (gluten-free)

  • This spicy, kicked-up ranch flavor is based on Whataburger's signature Jalapeño Ranch sauce, also available at H-E-B that was made famous on Whataburger's All-Time Favorite, the Monterey Melt burger. With the perfect combination of that same spice and tanginess in every one of these chips, it's easy to savor each and every kettle-cooked crunch.

Sea Salt & Pepper (gluten-free)

  • Paying tribute to the old-fashioned potato chips originally served with each Whataburger, this perfectly crunchy, kettle-cooked variety has just the right amount of sea salt and black pepper and offers a great flavor combination with a delicious and broad appeal.

"It's a thrill to recognize such a significant and exciting part of Whataburger's history with the introduction of our new Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips," said Vice President of Retail Mike Sobel. "We're proud to offer customers a new retail item that reminds us of Whataburger's heritage, and think the crunch of kettle-cooked chips provides the perfect way to experience the bold flavors of today while giving a nod to our past."

Whether you're having them alongside a deli sandwich or just as a snack on the go, the convenient two-ounce bags of Whataburger's Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips can be enjoyed anytime throughout the day. They are available at the checkout stand in select H-E-B stores.

Whataburger launched into retail sales in Spring 2013 by bottling its popular line of condiments - Fancy Ketchup, Spicy Ketchup and Original Mustard - and making them available at H-E-B stores in Texas. Since then, new products have been added to shelves including Whataburger's own Premium Pork Sausage, Honey Butter, Original Mayo, Whataburger's line of Signature Sauces: Creamy Pepper, Peppercorn Ranch, Jalapeño Ranch and Honey Mustard, Whataburger's Honey BBQ and Bold BBQ Sauces and Whataburger's Original Pancake Mix.

"We're grateful for the continued support and partnership we've had with H-E-B for nearly two years, and are excited to see it grow with the introduction of our new Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips," Sobel added.

"H-E-B is proud to work with Whataburger to provide Texans with new and unique products they love and will enjoy," said Reade Ahrens, H-E-B Group Vice President of Grocery Procurement and Merchandising. "We continue to receive overwhelming customer support for the Whataburger line of products."

ABOUT WHATABURGER:
Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: "What a burger!" Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100 percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 770 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
