Backyard Farms, the largest grower of year-round tomatoes in New England, announced the addition of the Somerset Pink to its family of tomatoes. A rare breed that requires great care to grow and is a favorite among tomato connoisseurs for its incredible taste, the Somerset Pink is a full-flavored beefsteak tomato that is known for its delicate balance of sweetness and acidity. The perfect complement to any salad or sandwich, the Somerset Pink is considered to be best in its purest form or with olive oil, mozzarella and fresh basil.

Committed to bringing the Northeast the best tomatoes possible, Backyard Farms is excited to offer these tomatoes, which are not readily available in the U.S. but have long been a popular favorite in Asia and parts of Europe. While few growers have the patience to provide the care needed to grow the Somerset Pink, Backyard Farms knew they were worth the effort for their taste alone.

"The Somerset Pink is a delicious tomato that few consumers in the U.S. have been able to experience," said Stuart Jablon, president and COO of Backyard Farms. "It requires very specific growing conditions. We're thrilled that through the commitment and dedication of our growers, tomato lovers throughout the Northeast now will be able to enjoy its exquisite flavor right here at home."

Backyard Farms takes the same care, attention and pride to growing tomatoes as you would in your own backyard by fully ripening them on the vine. Once ripe, Backyard Farms then picks and delivers the tomatoes to markets only within a day's drive of Madison, ME.

As proud as Backyard Farms is of its tomatoes, the company is also proud of its commitment to socially responsible agriculture, which strives to have a positive impact on all of the touch points needed to grow a great tasting tomato year-round employees, consumers, the environment and the community.

The Backyard Farms Somerset Pink is currently available at select Maine and New Hampshire Hannaford stores, with plans to expand. For more information and store locations, visit www.backyardfarms.com.
