Photo Coverage: Nicolas Ghesquiere's First Louis Vuitton Collection
The most anticipated show of the season has arrived and we have the pictures for you to obsess over. The baton was passed from Marc Jacobs to Nicolas Ghesquière as fashion director at Louis Vuitton and Ghesquière's first collection showed in Paris this week.
Ghesquière's debut marks a new era for the luxury house. "It's a balance of newness and heritage at the house," Vuitton chief executive officer Michael Burke told WWD, explaining Ghesquière's mandate. "Audacity that leads to eternity. There has to be a certain sense of timelessness."
The show did not make any bold statements to indicate the direction Ghesquière wants to take Louis Vuitton. He spent his time at Balenciaga turning haute concepts into bold and savvy looks. With Vuitton, he created beautiful, chic and very wearable clothes for women.
"The clothes have to be functional," Ghesquière said. "What do the girls around me want to wear? I'm surrounded by many women, so I listen to them. I collect a little thing from all of them and mix it. A wardrobe."
