BWW Recap: DWTS: Who's the First One to Stop Dancing?
by Gabrielle Gervais - September 17, 2014

ABC's hit reality competition show DANCING WITH THE STARS premiered its 19th season last night with a bang, and tonight was the first elimination round. Now I'm recapping this show as it happens, so before it is revealed, my guess for the couple up for elimination is Lolo Jones and her partner Keo. I'd hate to see her partner go because this is his first DWTS season, but between Jones's stiff moves and sour attitude through the night, she is my pick to go home. (more...)

BWW Reviews: FALL FOR DANCE Kicks Off with a High Energy Evening at the Delacorte
by Frances Steiner - September 17, 2014

The Public Theater was founded on the idea that “Culture belongs to everyone.” While Fall for Dance Festival is a brainchild of New York City Center and not The Public, this mandate is similarly a founding principle of the festival. Each performance costs $15 and consists of four works from leading dance companies and artists. This year, City Center commissioned three works in addition to four American premieres and four New York City premieres. Last year, at the tenth anniversary of the festival, City Center partnered with The Public to present two free performances at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. It was so successful that Fall for Dance at the Delacorte will become the annual kick off event. This year, the program consisted of works presented by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, New York City Ballet, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and Lil Buck. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Dances Patrelle Presents ROMEO AND JULIET
by Barnett Serchuk - September 17, 2014

Francis Patrelle, the artistic director/resident choreographer of Dances Patrelle says in a program note that prior to 1982 he had never seen any version of the Romeo and Juliet ballet. It certainly sounds strange to me. Where had he been all that time? It seems that everyone I knew in the dance world had seen some production of it. Even my brothers, who detest ballet, had seen the Fonteyn/Nureyev movie. Be that as it may, I won't hold it against him. (more...)
