His new production of Handel's ACIS AND GALATEA, one of the most beloved English language operas, has its world premiere next week at Cal Performances, Berkeley (April 25 - 27), before traveling to Celebrity Series of Boston (May 15-18) for its East Coast premiere. UWM Department of Dance Receives NEA Grant

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa has announced that University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Department of Dance is one of 886 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. UWM Department of Dance at the Peck School of the Arts is recommended for a $15,000 grant to support the restaging of Trisha Brown's signature work Set and Reset (1983) as the focal point of Brown: Lineage and Process, a year-long exploration of Brown's creative ideas during the 2014-2015 academic year. UWM is one of only four colleges and universities in the United States that received a grant this year in the dance artistic field. (more...)

NYCs 8th Annual Dance Parade + Festival Set for 5/17

Over 10,000 dancers will participate in the Eighth Annual Dance Parade and Festival in New York City on Saturday May 17th 2014, starting at 1:00pm. This year's parade will feature dancers from countries around the globe, including Ukraine, Bolivia, India, Brazil, Korea, Algeria, Tahiti, Mexico, Japan, Estonia, Jamaica, China, Armenia, Spain and Indonesia. Tony Award winner, tap dancer marvel and choreographer Savion Glover and Bessie-winning founder and artistic director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of Urban Bush Women will serve as Grand Marshals. DiverseWorks presents the Houston premiere of choreographer Karen Sherman's One with Others, a multi-media dance work that's part movement, part spoken word, part found-object art installation, and part construction project. One with Others will be presented at The Barn on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 pm. Each performance will be followed by a talk back with Sherman. 'Intimate Distance' is the theme of this year's Berkeley Dance Project, an evening of choreography that will explore the relationship of distance and intimacy. The final production of UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies's Mainstage season runs today, April 17-26in Zellerbach Playhouse. Directed by Professor Lisa Wymore, it features new works by Jack Gray (visiting from New Zealand), Katie Faulkner (working here in Berkeley), and Ashley Ferro-Murray (choreographing from New York).
